Big Dreams and AVODAH Coffee GIVEAWAY — UPDATED

Whether it is buried deep or boldly written-out for anyone to see –

Whether it is understood or indescribable –

Whether it’s forging ahead or left forgotten and unbelieved in –

Everyone has one — a longing — a DREAM.

Bruce Wilkinson calls this “universal and powerful longing a Big Dream. Like the genetic code that describes your unique passions and abilities, your Big Dream has been woven into your being from birth.”

I am awestruck by those who discover their big God dream, and then follow God in it. It takes heavy doses of courage to follow a dream — to step out into the unknown and take risks. I know, because I’ve spent so much time camped out on the edge of my comfort zone — afraid to take the plunge. This following of dreams isn’t about selfish ambition. Oh, no! Quite the contrary.

This following of dreams is about living out the plans that God has already laid out for us. It is about moving forward, taking action steps — even if courageously afraid — bringing God glory by living out the dream He has for us.

The family who created Avodah Coffee has inspired me. They sell coffee. Maybe they were born to sell the amazingly, delicious, smooth and comforting brew that I awaken to in the morning. But, I would venture to say it goes much deeper than that. Their passion is evident as they share, “The essence and mission of Avodah Coffee – and the basis for our name —  is our heart to serve… We are a family, walking together everyday as we journey through a lifestyle of Avodah.”

So what is Avodah? These words that answer that question, are their own:

The word Avodah is Hebrew, and describes action that is simultaneously work, worship and service. It means that the work we do is more than a job – that bringing the awesome to our customers is about serving you, the farmers who grow the coffee, and those who benefit from the organizations we support.  All this combines under a lifestyle of Avodah, through which all we do becomes an offering.  When you see Avodah, you know you’re getting great coffee with a great purpose.

I believe following a Big “God” Dream is so much more than just being successful or having the goods. It is achieving something remarkable for an eternal Kingdom purpose — to help other people — to point the way to the cross — and Avodah Coffee is doing all this. Just read their blog.

Their customer service has been world class, and of course, Avodah Coffee is simply delish! They have not asked me to say so. They have not offered any complimentary coffee for my review. No, I decided on my own. I knew I wanted to, the very first time I heard their story. I just needed to try the brew first. So, I bought some, drank some, and some more and loved it. Now, I am  — a SUBSCRIBER to their COFFEE.

Would you consider trying it, too, and then tell your friends?

You will not be disappointed.

My dream is to live and write bold and aunthentically free in the name of Christ, to change the world from the inside out with a passion for loving His people. I dream of one day adopting a child in need of love. I dream to open a photography business and touch the world with His glory caught behind my lens, to help people stop time and hold grace. And I dream of one day traveling across the world into Uganda to meet our Compassion child!

      Kelli,

I remember you quietly slipped in here, and I neglected to pray for you. I would like to now.

Lord, I lift up Kelli to you right now. I pray that Your Spirit in her will give her the boldness to write with freedom. I pray that as she writes, the words that go forth will be liberating. I pray that she will reach the lost with the truth of Your love. Provide for her to adopt a child or children — for I know adoption is also Your heart. I pray that You will provide the means to open a photography business that will bring You glory in this earth, as she uses her talent for You. I also pray for provision so that she may be able to meet the child she sponsors. Thank You for her heart that is wholly after You. I know that You show up strong for those whose hearts are completely Yours. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

      Blessings to you,

      Michele-Lyn

  • Elizabeth Clemons

What a cool name! I love how it combines work, work and service!!
My dream is to adopt and/or foster kids–especially the older ones and help prepare them for the future. Too often they are dumped when they turn 18 and I’d like to love them and show them how to live out there. We’ll see if I get the chance to do that! :)

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Elizabeth,

This is such a beautiful dream. This is God’s heartbeat, I believe. It is true and undefiled religion in His sight — to help the orphans.

Lord, I pray for Elizabeth right now. I pray that You will make away for her to see her dream come to pass. I pray for provision, for wisdom and clear direction for her. I pray that You will bring children to her that she may lead them to You. I pray that You will use her mightily to proclaim the truth that frees, to these unwanted children, so they know they are wanted and loved fierce. I pray You will use her to help them find their purpose in You, and all the plans that You have for them. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

      Blessings to you,

      Michele-Lyn

      Thank you so much :)

      Blessings…

  • RaeAnne

My dream is to one day share with other women how God restored my marriage after my husband’s adultery and addiction to pornography. God’s grace is amazing.

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      RaeAnne,

What a beautiful testimony you have.

Lord, I pray for RaeAnne right now. I pray that You will open doors for her to be able to share the testimony You have given her. Your word says, we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. I pray that You will give her opportunities to tell her story of Your delivering power, Your healing and Your redeeming love. I pray as she does, that others will find healing, hope and freedom in You. Thank You for restoring their marriage. You are worthy to be praise. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

Thank you for sharing so courageously!

Hi Michele-Lyn…just started reading your blog, and I love it. Your heart for God is so reflected here, and it’s soooo inspiring and encouraging.

This post is very timely in my life, as God is taking me closer to the BIG dream, but I’m still so very far from it! It goes something like this: full-time ministry, specifically toward young women in a mentoring/discipleship fashion; also to own and operate a Christian coffee shop/bookstore/art gallery space/meeting space (where I just decided we’d sell Avodah Coffee exclusively!). God has revealed that I will indeed be stopping work at my full-time job come this fall, but I have no idea if He’ll give me another “real” job, or if I’ll be diving further into ministry…Whatever He wants, I’ll do!

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Meghan,

Your comments are so sweet and encouraging. I know what you mean when you say, “God is taking me closer to the Big dream, but still very far from it.” I have kept my dreams at arms length for a very long time, and I am just now beginning to embrace them. I love your dream!

Lord, I pray for Meghan right now. I pray that You will open doors for her to be able to minister, to mentor, to help others — especially young women — know their purpose, and know who they are in You. I pray You will expand her sphere of influence to share the truth she knows. You know her desire to open a Christian coffee shop — and I thank You that her steps are ordered of You. I pray as she delights in You, that You will give her the desire of her heart. Provide for every need, and make clear the way before her. Thank you for her heart after You. Use her mightily for Your glory. In Jesus Name, AMEN.

Blessings to you, and it is so nice to meet you :)

  • Jacqueline Ellenburg

Michele, I have tried several times to write down my dreams but I can’t get passed the hurt of something way down in my soul. My dreams were crushed a long time ago and I lost all hope. I am glad you brought this to the surface. I do have a multitude of things to be grateful for and I am, but right now it hurts too bad to go there.

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Jacqueline,

This breaks my heart to read. I do not know what has gone on in your life — all the details. But I do know that hope deferred makes one’s heart sick. I know that disappointment stings some of the worst poison. I know that I have had my hope in people, hope they would change, hope they would see me — not just see with eyes – but see with their heart. I have had my hope in circumstances to change — and all the while, with sick heart. I remember, very distinctly, the day that I realized He was enough. God was enough. His love was enough. Just knowing He understood where I was at, the pain that I felt — became enough.

So all those hopes that I had in all the things that were uncertain — I placed in the One that is always certain and never changes. Yes, it is right to focus on all the blessings in our life, and give thanks in all things. Sometimes, that doesn’t always makes the pain go away. But I know a healer, He’s the Lover and Guardian of our souls.

Lord, I pray for Jacqueline right now. I lift her up to You and I pray You make your presence known in her. I pray that You would rain fresh upon her — rain grace and strength. You say You are near to the broken hearted and bind up their wounds. You say You raise up those who are crushed in spirit
I believe the words in Psalm 3 — You, O Lord, are a shield about Jacqueline, her glory, and the One who lifts her head. She cries to the You, and You will answer. You tell us we will have many afflictions, but You promise deliverance from them all. I believe for breakthrough, redemption, healing and blessings poured out in her life. I pray for hope renewed. I pray for answered prayer. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Thank you for your strong faith, and genuine heart. I know that God is not through with you. His plans are still great! I love you!

  • http://na Tara Colucci

My dream is to serve Christ whole-heartedly and to live a life that is fully devoted to serving those around me. I want to have a home where young people feel safe and welcomed.

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Tara,

What a beautiful dream! This is the sum of the law — Jesus said — to love God wholeheartedly, and to love others as yourself.

Lord, I pray for Tara right now. I lift her up to You, as You know all the desires of her heart. I pray that You would pour Your grace out in her life, that she make walk in the manner that You have called her. I pray that you would bring provision for her to be able to open up a safe-house, a place where young people can find Your love, know Your truth, be set free, and discover their purpose in You. I pray that You will enlarge her sphere of influence, and enlarge her heart to be filled to overflowing with Your love and grace, that she may pour out to others. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

Blessings to you, and thank you for sharing,

      Michele-Lyn

hi! warm wave from MS! what is my dream? ahh…i would say to be an author, and as scary and exciting as that is– the dream that i have a hard time speaking? that makes me quake in my boots? going overseas with my family to minister to those in need–possibly orphans–my husband and i both feel a pull toward that. a permanent stay or short trips? i dont know–only God does. well, there you have it. i have been reading you from time to time–but usually do so in the reader, so i dont comment. but i was thinking of you today–in between emails, i think of you a lot–so decided to drop a note. i only want to bring you grace and beneficial encouragement as a friend–i hope you can feel that across the miles, dear one. love and blessings.

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Nacole,

It is so wonderful to see your beautiful face here, and it is amazing to see that we share the same heart — some of the same dreams. Did you get to see my comment here? I went first, in answering the question. I said that my dream is for God to use my writing to provide a way for the family and I to do short term missions. Big DREAM!

Lord, I lift up Nacole to You. You see every desire of her heart, and even the secret petitions that only You hear. I pray that as she makes You her delight — You will give her the desire of her heart. I pray that You perfect all that concerns her and her family in everything they do — as they commit their way to You. I pray that You will provide for every need in every single area of Nacole’s life. Thank You for her life — she is a gift to the body of Christ and a light and brings hope to this dark and hurting world. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

      With love,

      Michele-Lyn

I hope I did everything right :) I subscribed and liked on facebook a long time ago.. thanks for the chance to win.

My biggest dream is to ALWAYS hunger and thirst for the Lord. My walk with the Lord is {fairly} new and I have a hunger so strong for Him that sometimes I literally feel like I am “starving”. I don’t ever want that feeling to go away, I want to make sure that I am worthy of His kingdom one day and that He will always love me. I don’t want to be a luke warm Christian and always question my salvation. I’m getting there.. :)

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

      Jana,

You are so sweet :) I just love it when I hear from you! I love your heart for the Lord. I counted your entries down for the giveaway.

Lord, I thank You for Jana, and her life that is Yours. I thank You for her hunger after righteousness — and because of it, she will be filled. I thank You that her worth and identity are settled in Christ’s finished work of the cross. I pray that You would speak clearly to her — as You say, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” I pray that You will give her an ever increasing desire to know You and know Your word and Your ways. Thank You that nothing can ever separate us from Your love. May she walk with You and in all the blessings and plans You have for her and her family — all the days of her life! In Jesus name, AMEN!

With love and gratitude for you, Jana :)
