What I am certain God desires… {Week 1: Bible in 90 Days & Counting Gifts}

Today will mark day 8 of reading the Bible through in 90 days. This last week has taken me on a journey from the beginning of time, to the building of the tabernacle. I read through Genesis and Exodus. You can print the reading schedule I am following, here. You can find and join the Facebook community for the B90Days here.

I have read and listened long to the words and stories God saw fit to record for our knowing. I may not understand all of what I have read. I still have a lot of “wonder-why’s”, and desire to go back and delve deeper in. But, there is one thing I know for certain — since the beginning of time and in every present moment, God desires relationship with me, with us, His people. God created us for Himself, and we were created for Him.

The eyes of both Adam and eve were opened as they took and ate the forbidden fruit. They realized their nakedness and hid when they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, for the intimate fellowship with God was broken.

Genesis 3:6-7, 8

And the through rest of the Word of God, we find Him desiring to draw to man, so that we may draw near to Him, and receive His blessing and favor.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless in His time, and found favor in the eyes of the Lord and Noah walked with God.  Genesis 6:8-9

Abraham received the covenant of promise and blessing that still stands for us today through Jesus. He found favor in His sight, because He believed Him and he was called the friend of God.  Genesis 17, Galatians 3:14,Genesis 18, James 2:23

While Joseph was in slavery and in prison, the Lord was with him and so was God’s favorfor the Lord caused everything Joseph did to succeed. Genesis 39:3, 23

Then fast-forward to end of Exodus, and the building of the tabernacle. All of this, the detailed plans of the tabernacle, the rituals and laws — all of it was so He might dwell among the people and be their God. Exodus 29:45-46

Then Moses and God. The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. From the very first time that I read this verse, many years ago, this has been my desire — that God would speak plain to me, as a friend, face-to-face, that He would know me by name and I would find favor in His sight. Genesis 33:11-12

And Moses prayer, becomes my prayer and may it be yours, too…

Let me know your ways,

that I may know You,

and find favor in your sight.

May Your Presence go with me

as I move forward in Your will,

and walk in Your favor.

Set me apart for Your purpose,

as Your own,  and show me your glory,

By day and by night,

lead the way, and I will follow.

Exodus 33:12-18

I want to let you know that you may find fewer posts from me this month as we delve into summer, spend time creating memories, and creating masterpieces, soaking up the sun, and hopefully re-decorating a bunch. I will still be connected, though, and you can find me on Facebook and Twitter. I love to find YOU there 🙂

    Hi Michele:

I understand about not posting as often during the summer. I haven’t been very good at visiting lately and for that I apologize.

I love the photo of your daughter. That sweet face would bring joy to anyone!

I carry a little of the same guilt for not visiting other bloggers. But I don’t think we should 🙁 I am still sorting this one out. I praying for you in the midst of your battle, that He would fight on your behalf, and rest in Him, my friend.

      Blessings to you…

Oh, I am so loving diving into His scripture, in community, the beginning of this 90 days, also. It is amazing knowing that so many are doing this — that we read His same words, together.

I love your list of gifts, friends. Oh, our Father is good!

    Love to you,

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

Are you part of the Facebook group? I haven’t seen you there. It is something wonderful to know you are reading, too. The theme that has stayed most with me is God’s desire to have relationship with His people. It has stirred my heart’s desire to know Him even more. I have become so hungry for His word… it is amazing!

I am scaling back a bit on posting this month — making time for some other things this summer. I hope to visit your place more and get to know you a bit better. You are such an incredible blessing to my life… just in case you didn’t know 🙂

      With love,

505 my friend is the best: squeals of joy over princess shoes.

Love princess shoes!!! There’s this little girl who comes to church with her mom. She’s maybe 4 and never been to church. She got a pair of Princess shoes for Christmas and they are WAY TOO BIG! It’s the cutest thing ever. She wears them every Sunday then comes to find me so I can take her to class. Love love love that girl and her princess shoes! Love you for gifting me with that thought!

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

You comments always stay with me. I have been smiling about your princess shoes girl for the last 2 days. This just blesses my heart so much! I know that you would be someone I would love to sit down and just listen to over coffee — just listen to your heart spill out all over for the least of these… and have mine moved and stirred with compassion to do something to touch them for Him.

You bless me so much more than you know!

wow…way to go…summer would be the best time to take on a challenge like this…and slowing down for the summer with all the kids free…great idea…different seasons in life…my summer is so much slower and I am more free than during the school year…drivers and workers…strange but good:)

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

Today was actually the first day that I felt a bit overwhelmed with the challenge, but that might me because my toddler was especially challenging today 🙂 Actually, it has been quite a wonderful commitment — one I am so glad I made.

My summer slows down, only in that I do not have to take the kids to any group classes… otherwise, I am still very busy 🙂 I am stepping away from blogging, just a bit, to make time for some other things I do not want to miss this summer 🙂

Visiting your place is one of them.. truly. I haven’t had much time to connect with my friends 🙂

I was reviewing the 90 days plan you are following, but it seems very very fast to me… can you really make it in 90 days and 30 minuts per day? I tried day 1, but wasn’t able to cover 16 chapters of Genesis in 30 minuts, it took to me more than one hour… but it’s a marvellous practice, even if one takes a little more than 90 days… Many blessings in this journey of yours!!

Those are very good observations and questions. I had the same ones myself, and truly thought — NO WAY! This is not for me. But as it turns out, my heart leaped before my mind could catch it. I do believe it is a matter of timing — God’s timing. It is summer and I have more time. But in actuality, with four children, and one of them being a very rambunctious toddler, my time to read is segmented and I am not sure how long it actually takes to read through each day.

What I found out this weekend is that listening to the audio of the Bible in the car was a huge aid in helping me catch up a day I lagged behind. I also am using The New Living Translation. It is a translation I personally find very easy to read, as it is in story-like format. It is especially good for the Old Testament. Although I would not use it for intense study, it serves a very good purpose in keeping me enthralled in what I am reading. What I have noticed is how hungry I have become to know more of God’s word 🙂

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here 🙂 Blessings to you…

Reading through the Bible just opens the eyes to the greatness of His story, doesn’t it? I love that you are sharing your journey through it. And you have such a blessed list. Unexpected letters and gifts, hugs, and sweet words from your child, all blessings from His hand. Have a wonderful day!

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

Thank you 🙂 and yes. I am in awe over His great love story. I know today, more than ever, that God desires relationship with His people — with me, with you.

Thank you for your sweet words 🙂 They make me smile big! I could add them to the list!

Blessings and hope we get to meet over coffee soon!

Love how God can speak volumes to us in these 90 days of submersion. I so enjoyed my 90 days. I’m going to do it every year (a different translation every year).

I’m still pondering Adam and Eve’s eyes being opened. I’ve always wondered why it’s written that way. As it seems their vision was narrowed as a result of sin. Don’t you think? They could no longer see clearly what was important…

    oh tangents.

what a wonderful list of gratitude, my friend! You made my list this last week ; )

All for Him with hugs to you,

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

I have so many unanswered questions. Ones I am not even sure I may investigate. The most evident truth to me through this last week and even into Leviticus these last 2 days, is the desire God has to be in relationship with His people.

So amazing.. His love for us has me in awe.

Thanks for your words of encouragement… you are a blessing 🙂

Love those photos of your little one bubbling joy. Proud of you for slowing down. I am feeling the same. Want to be present with my kids.

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

That girl — so much joy! ‘sigh’ to slowing down… it feels right 🙂 Truthfully, I am also looking forward to visiting friends like you, more. Sorta like an infilling — and hoping I will have more to pour out at the end 🙂

Blessings precious daughter of God… you are a blessing!

I have to say that I love the photo of your little girl laughing; so sweet. Your list is amazing. I love that you keep the Word of God as a priority.

Thank you 🙂 I love that picture of my toddler. It just makes me smile 🙂 Thank you for your sweet words.

      Blessings to you,

    • http://www.alifesurrendered.com Michele-Lyn

This challenge is something I thought I would NEVER do… seriously. But I just knew that God was calling me to it, as my heart leaped before my mind could catch up 🙂 So far, it has been amazing!

You are so sweet and so generous with your love and kindness! I am SMILING big right now 🙂

      With love,
