Peppermint Wreathe Ornament Tutorial

So what does a peppermint wreathe have to do with a life surrendered, a wife and mama whose life is surrendered to God?

This.

When I barely have time to finish what I have-to-do, and I choose to get crafty, let go, and allow the kids make “more” of a mess, it’s me living a life surrendered. God has called me into a place of servant-leadership as a mama, and so I serve and lead my children, even in a peppermint craft, as worship unto God.

Every time I choose to do something that I know the kids will enjoy, when I would rather do something else, and choose their interests above my own, it feels a bit like a sacrifice.

And then after I do it, it feels more like a blessing.

This is a sweet, simple Christmas craft. Once you make the royal icing, it only takes about 5 minutes to make a wreathe. Even my three year old girl could do it well. 🙂

Each peppermint wreathe ornament needs:

  • 5 peppermints
  • 5 cinnamon drops
  • royal icing: I use Wilton’s recipe with meringue powder found, here.
  • sandwich bag
  • a place to dry (wax paper)
  • string

Tips: I put a little of the royal icing in a plastic sandwich bag for each child. The royal icing is the glue, and I like to put extra between all of the peppermints. I let the wreath dry for a day, before I added the string and hung all of our wreathes on the tree.

We don’t eat it, but it’s edible, besides the string, of course. 🙂
