The truth of the Ordinary and God-Sized Dreams?

It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve linked with LisaJo and the brave Five Minute Friday community. But today, I have, though not feeling so brave. You can find the rest of the writers by clicking here.

I’m not original enough.

Don’t have time enough.

Not Creative enough.

Not Clever enough.

Not Cool enough.

Clearly not confident enough.

Just ordinary.

And these excuses sit at the top of the list and the tip of my tongue — excuses why I can’t.

Can’t? Or won’t?

Sometimes I let the ordinary and mundane of life drain the life out of the dream until I settle down in a place of immobility.

In one breath I say I want to reach the world for Christ, and in the next tantrum, quarrel and spill — I say forget it! I quit.

What good am I anyway, if I can’t even get the kids to get along and desire to reconcile the world to Christ?

And do justice? I’ve barely scratched the surface of what that means. And dream to raise children that do justice?

And though my mind floods with these thoughts and more of why I can’t. There is something extraordinary about the Creator of the universe living in me and He won’t let me wallow in my defeatist state. And he doesn’t anger over it. No. Gentle, He awakens me to the truth of the ordinary.

He’s chosen the ordinary to display the love, splendor, and glory of a far from ordinary God and extraordinary wouldn’t even fairly describe the kind of God He is and He abides in me.

How He chooses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.

And perhaps if I’m confounded its because I’m too wise in my own eyes.

And I remember again — it’s all about Him and it’s all for Him and the greatest of all, it’s all with Him.

And He has a God-sized dream for me to live out,

and it’s more about God than it is about size. <—Click to Tweet

And about His size, anyway, and not at all mine.

“It’s not about what you do as much as how you do it. It’s about pursuing life with passion and purpose and going with God wherever He leads. It’s about not settling. It’s about tenaciously believing you’re made for more. Not as in ‘bigger house, fancier car, more luxurious lifestyle.’ No, my friend, I mean ‘more of Jesus, more of what He’s created you to be, more of what He’s called you to do.’ Less of you, actually, and more of all He is and all He has for you — which is beyond what you can even imagine.” Holley Gerth, You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream: Opening the Door to All God Has for You
