Labor of Motherhood Reveals the Mess in Me {and Counting Gifts}

Motherhood. My last two weeks have been laced with very challenging days. My pre-teen is also my determined child. The mix of the two are refining me. God has used motherhood to refine me.

We do not get to choose what He uses to refine us.

Yet, He is the Potter with gentle, masterful hands

shaping us into a vessel of honor fit for His use.

I remain pliable in His hands, yet my selfishness as a mama has been the most challenging thing to overcome — even still. Many times it seems I am getting it wrong more than right. The labor of mothering reveals the mess in me.

Though a mess, I purpose to connect to the hearts of my children. Through the struggle of it, while finding thanks in the hard places, I find grace. The same determined child, whose soul Husband and I are currently fighting for, pulled me away from my computer to the couch, saying “Sit here.” I sat down and she proceeded to sit beside me, and found a comfy spot. She leaned in close and rested her head on my chest. She just wanted to snuggle. She still wants to snuggle. This is a gift.

I continue to mother by grace, leaning in close to Abba and staying connected to the Vine. I know apart from Him I can do nothing. Along the way, I have found truths I hold tightly to, and defined my core values that govern my heart on how I parent.

I have been graciously invited to tell a little about my journey to motherhood. It is an honor to say I am guest posting at New Life Steward, Mary Beth’s place.

Will you join me there? I am sharing part of my story of becoming a mother at a young age, and sharing about the core values that define how I parent.
