It was the calm after the storm. Just minutes after an altercation between child and mother. It’s outcome, for the child, grounding, for the mother, grief. And my grief is not born of heartache as a result of my children’s failings, but my own failures in parenting them well.
One sibling witness says of the other, “When [the sibling] knows they are in trouble they act nice. But every other time, they are just mean.”
And my child was wondering why.
Assuredly, I knew the answer, “What’s inside comes out.”
And Jesus concurs, “the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (Luke 6:45 NIV)
And my assuredness quickly turned to remorse. For just a few minutes before the babe’s question, In that fretful moment, in a child’s determined fight, my pride rose because of disrespect, and it was too easy for me to turn angry on my child. Continue reading part 2…
