I know rejection, and the deep seeded, horrible pain it leaves. Many of us have our own stories. Although, those stories took place in the past, it is sometimes difficult not to respond to life — to people through the wounds and the scars left by them.

Rejection is the feeling of not being liked, accepted, loved, valued or received. Sometimes we live in the house rejection built in us. Feeling worthless. Feeling inferior. Then we measure our self-worth based on acceptance — sometimes living with a performance mentality. The idea that being accepted is based on how well we do, and not who we are.
How are we freed from the wounds of the past abandonment, violated trust, neglect or betrayal? What if it is still very present? Living in the house built by rejection can make us feel very lonely, even when we are surrounded by others.
It the book Rejected – A Four Week Mini Bible Study, Heather Bixler shares her own honest life and experience with rejection, and also shares the liberating truth that brings healing.
Heather Bixler writes, “The truth is this: God made you in His image, and that makes you capable. Not by what you can do, not by what you have learned, but by His grace.”
Ultimately, we can be free from suffering the affects of rejection, when we fully embrace the truth she boldly declares, “He will never leave us nor forsake us. God is not in the business of rejection.”
Heather goes on to share how she learned to move past this rejection and forward into the life God has planned for us. She describes, “For me it took a day when I was tired of letting what other people thought of me be more important than anything else. Acceptance by other people can become an idol in your life like it did mine.”
We can release this idol, and embrace the truth that God’s grace is more than enough. There are obstacles that stand in our way to becoming all that we were created to be in Christ. We overcome them — we are over-comers because of Christ.
We are to receive His love and acceptance, and find our value based on His finished work of the cross — not on other’s opinions of us.
You are accepted by faith, because Christ’s performance was good enough.
