Rice Crispy Treat Christmas House

Rice Crispy Treat Christmas Houses are my favorite to make.

I have a small binder filled with Christmas craft ideas. I put it together, before there was Pinterest. I smiled when, in it, I found a schedule I had written out for a Christmas party we had with the cousins a few years ago. At the time, we had 11 children all together. That day was planned to the minute with enough activities to last a week! What was I thinking? And both of my sisters-in-law, they let me. They never complained about my plan, even though it was a bit overboard. “Sorry about that, ladies.”

That Christmas party we had, that was a good, a-while-ago, day. One of my favorite crafts we did was the Rice Crispy Treat Christmas House. The kids are getting older, and it’s happening quickly, and seeing that book reminded me how important the moments are — the beautifully messy, fleeting ones. So, the kids and I thumbed through the pages, reminiscing a bit. And we landed on the page. “Let’s do it again, but just one thing at a time.” And we did. We chose the house.

For the candies — anything you’d like that is sweet and colorful.

Make the rice crispy treats thick, if you can.
We made a double batch and just followed the
recipe on the marshmallow bag.

Cut some squares and triangles.

And piece them together.

Of course it needs the glue, which is really royal frosting, to hold it all together;

powdered sugar, meringue powder and water. I used this recipe, found here.

I put the glue in zipper bags. Son decided he wanted a hollow house with walls.

And then I let them free to be creative.

We had fun doing it, and the kids were excited about their creations, especially the eating-them part. If you decide to make them, will you share a picture at the Facebook community? I’d love to see them!
