“It is much easier to block out the evil in our world, and no one wants to be a ‘Debbie Downer’… But once you have seen it, you have to deal with the consequences… We have to be willing to embrace all that God is about, all that He loves, and all that breaks His heart.”
— Noel Yeatts, Awake
I’ve seen it, and now I am compelled to tell the story,
yet I’m fighting for the courage to do so.
After the river rescue, a few of us were able to ride with the children and mamas to the Rescue Center at Hope of Life. I was honored to be one of them, riding on the ambulance holding on to the rail, holding on for their dear lives. Ride with us for a minute of the ride by clicking here.
Once the Ambulance arrived at the center at Hope of Life, the children were whisked off and carried in to be assessed.

Here, Rosalia is being seen first. We have learned of her condition. She is severely malnourished and this has only aggravated her other infirmities. Rosalia has downs syndrome, scoliosis, and scabies. Rosalia is 4 years old and weighs about as much as a 4 month old at 14 pounds 8 ounces.

Noe’s malnourishment has done the same to his already weak body. He has cerebral palsy, and a breathing problem, although we do not yet know what the diagnosis is.

Nelson, a 1 year old severely dehydrated and malnourished.

Sergio 14 pounds, and 2 years old with pneumonia and is severely malnourished.

The Rescues, they will get the help they need here.
I have witnessed here in Guatemala the Body of Christ laboring in unity. It doesn’t matter what church or denomination we are part of, we are all part of Jesus Body. It does not matter what our occupation is, because we are co-laborers for the Kingdom. It does not matter our age or our status, because God is the provider when we step out in faith and when we are willing to take action and offer what is in our hands.
I have perspective here. I know we cannot do everything, but we can do something, and the something that World Help is doing in partnership with Hope of Life, is nothing short of remarkable. The work they are doing they do with commitment, love, joy and heart, and like Sal from Hope of Life said, “What ever we are given are just tools to present them with the most important thing and that is the story of redemption.”
Them and us make we. We can make a difference, even if just for one. I’m believing it will be more. There are an ininite number of ways to help. I am all in, joined to the rescue.
